The curse of Rigby

In the past two years, I have now broken down outside of Rigby twice. Both times very inconvenient. The first time was in 2010 when I was living with Michael. I was headed to Idaho Falls at 5 a.m. and I blew out my front driver's side tire on my way to work. I was only five minutes from my house. Lucky for me Michael is an amazing brother and helped me out.

This morning I was driving home to Pocatello from Rexburg. My heater wasn't working and it was starting to make me worried. I've worked on cars a little with my brother and I know the mechanism by which heat comes out of my vent. So I called Christopher and was talking to him. Then I looked down at my temperature gauge and it didn't look so great. It was inching toward the red zone! So I pulled over at which point all my engine lights kicked on. Why didn't that happen before? Then the steam started, pour out from under my hood. After consulting with Christopher we guessed that it had to be my fuel pump.

I had at least 5 people stop to help me. It is nice to know that if I were in dire need there are nice people who are concerned for the welfare of others. I call my insurance company and they called a tow truck for me. I was sitting on the side of the road for about two hours. That is a long time when it is January in Idaho. I have two blankets in my car just for this purpose. I was pretty warm until the tow truck guy made me stand outside while he got my car onto his truck. I was so cold by the time we got in the truck. Then when he was dropping me off at Michael's, we stood outside again and filled out paper work.

I wasn't sure where to take my car so we went to Michael's. From there I decided I needed to take it some where. We now needed to find a tow rope. Michael called some people and worked it all out. So I again was behind the wheel, without power steering, trying not to hit Ben's truck as he towed me back across town. I left my car outside a shop. They can't get to it until Tuesday.

That is all fine and dandy, but I have a lot of obligations in Pocatello between now and Tuesday. Luckily, I have a friend who offered to come pick me up. This leaves me car-less for the next couple days. I haven't been without a car in a while. It makes me very dependent on others and I'm not great at that.

The whole experience has been interesting. The reason I was in Rexburg was to attend the temple. Idaho Falls has been closed for the last couple weeks and I really needed to go. I told Michael there was opposition in all things, and he stated that usually happens before or while you are doing what you are supposed to. For me, I find that it happens after. It is almost as if Satan wants me to prove I'm strong. I'm not looking for the hard things after. But I've gotten to the point where I don't care what he throws at me, I'm going to show him that I am bigger than him. I have power to tell him to get out of my life. I choose to be valiant! I choose to be righteous! I choose to be diligent in keeping the commandments! I choose to know my savior and use the atonement in my life! I choose the straight and narrow way back to heaven! I will not let him keep me down. I will remember that I am a daughter of God and he loves me so much. I will conquer this world because I know that is what I was sent here to do. I will learn from every experience, every hard time and every cherished moment.

This made my whole day worth it! Who wouldn't smile with this little man grinning at you.?

Strength through Optimism

Well the first week of school has flown by. I hope the rest are like this. In comparison to last winter, I don't feel like I'm going to die. This time last year I was taking 21 credits. I was in class 40 hours a week and I was sure how I was going to survive. But survive I did. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! I only have 10 credits this semester, but still so much to learn. I know that other times in my life have prepared me for this. My new challenge this semester will be to keep motivated. With the extra "free" time I am honing my skills of procrastination. Not a good habit to get into. But when you don't have class until 1 p.m. sometimes it is hard to force yourself to get up. I'm loving my Neuro Management class so far. It is building upon principles we have already "learned" but really it is helping to put the pieces into real scenarios to solidify them. I'm also taking a business class. While I don't plan on opening my own practice there are things in this class that I will find usefully. It is my goal this semester to take something out of every lecture and every assignment that will be beneficial to my future career. Attitude makes up for most of our learning and our happiness. So I am going to try to cut down on my complaining and find my old positive optimistic self again. I know I was a happier person and I learned so much because I was willing to look outside of the situation for ways to grow. So here is to "happier" new semester!

Welcomed peace

I've had an interesting experience the past couple of days. I would like to apologize to all the people that have had to live with and be around me for the past seven months. I've been holding in a lot of anger and bitterness toward a certain individual and we all know that isn't healthy. I've never been good at dealing with my emotions and rather than let the sadness and loss overcome my life I repressed it with other feelings.

The lord gives us opportunities to learn and to grow and we get to choose what we do with them. We can either see them for what they are and become better people, or we can let them tear us apart little by little until there is nothing left of our sweet spirits and we can no longer let anyone love us.

I will always love you. You will always have a part of me. I know that we can't be together and there are other opportunities waiting for both of us. All we can do is let the lord mold us into celestial beings, perfected through the atonement of Christ. Good luck on your journey! I will always cherish the good times we shared.

My new place

So I am officially on the lease for my new apartment. I've moved my things in in stages. I think my room has been a complete disaster and unpacked three times now. Hopefully, I can maintain the cleanly appearance as the semester gets going again next week.  I'm in a 2 bedroom basement apartment with a friend from my ward. She is thoroughly worried that we will hate each other by the end, but I think it will be a good fit for both of us.

As you can see I have covered pretty much every inch of wall space with furniture. I love when everything has a place.
