State Change!

Today has been interesting. I've been feeling so many different emotions. First off, I was really tired when I woke up and not too excited for the day. I got to work and jumped into the hustle and bustle. One of my favorite patients was going home today. It is so hard to let them go home after you have invested so much care and effort into helping them recover. That is the end goal, right? They are supposed to recover so they can go home and live their lives. As we were saying good bye, I got a hug from a man that just last week I had to hold on tight to his gait belt to help him keep his balance. He teared up as he expressed his gratitude for our care and service to him. It was such a touching moment and one I will cherish and hold onto.

At lunch time I was talking with another student about things that had been going on in my life. Failed relationships, struggling to decide where I am supposed to look for a job, stressing about my national board exam coming up next month and then the fact that my little sister just got engaged this weekend. As the day wore on I was having a hard time being positive. I have found that I keeping telling people Heather got engaged. Most of these people don't even know Heather so why do I feel the need to tell them? I'm super excited for her, but I think that it just illuminates that fact that I want that so bad for myself and I don't have it.  Heather's fiance is amazing. They work so well together. They communicate so well. I'm sure they will have their learning experiences just like everyone else, but to me it all sounds so blissful.

I sit back and wonder why I have been unable to find a relationship like that. What do I need to change inside of myself? Where can I improve my spirituality and my service to others? How can I stop being bitter that I'm not married and don't have a family of my own?

As I went to institute tonight I realized that all the feelings I had earlier in the day were bitterness. I was letting it consume my thoughts. Why me? What about me? What is the common theme.....ME. I want/need to stop focusing on ME. A thought was shared about prayer and the difference between praying at the Rameumptom and the prayers Alma offered. The difference was the Zoromites were only concerned about themselves. They were praying for their own purposes and glory. As Alma prayed, he prayed for others, for his people. He wasn't focused on himself.

We also talked about Christ and his atonement. Christ didn't just pay for the remission of our sins, he also paid for our heartache, for our misery, for our sorrows and our pain. If we are willing to offer these things to him, he has already taken them. We are the ones who are holding on, not willing to let go and move on. We are the ones punishing ourselves for things that may not even have been in our control.

I shared my favorite scripture in class. It is 2 Nephi 22:2. It states, "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation."

How often do I forget these words? I know them to be true. I felt such a strong spirit testifying to me that these words are true for me and for everyone. As I trust in god and stand strong, instead of fearing things I don't yet understand, the lord will give me strengthen to overcome my weakness. I will become a mighty tool in his hands, bringing others unto the salvation of Christ and sharing with them the love he has for each and every one of us.

Formals, ties and a fun guy

This is a little long, just FYI.

I went on a super fun date last night. They were having a "girl ask guy, formal/tie" dance yesterday. I thought to myself who am I going to ask to this thing. When I found out about it I had only been back for a couple days. I don't know anyone, especially not boys. So I set out in search of a fun/interesting individual. I searched and searched and then the perfect person just appeared.

I have been in the Racquetball club at ISU for a little over a year now. It is so much fun and for the most part I've met some pretty amazing people there. There was one guy that started coming this semester that I have still never played. I'd seen him around and he seemed cool, but I was engaged and stuff and didn't want to get too close to that situation because I thought he was pretty attractive.

Last weekend we had a racquetball tournament. It was a two day tournament. Friday we played doubles. My partner had just been playing for a couple weeks, so I got to give her some pointers. It was fun. Then Saturday was singles. There was a lot of sitting around just chatting with people while we waiting for our game to come up. We made boondoggle key chains and ate food.

I was starting to get hungry and then someone asked me to ref a game. I was thinking my next game wasn't for a little while so I said yes. My stomach was growling while I was reffing and I was looking forward to some snacks when I was finished. Turns out my game was next. So no food for me. I was a little irritated, probably because my blood sugar was low. So I went in and played. It was a pretty quick game luckily. My opponent did take a time our during our second set. Lunch had already come, Texas Road house catered it. It smelled so good. I was dying at that point. So I finished up my match and headed to the table to get some food.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I can eat a lot, especially when I'm starving. I loaded up my plate with pulled pork, rolls, loaded mashed potatoes, carrot sticks and salad. I don't think I could have fit anything else. I assured people that I could take care of everything on my plate. I was about half way done eating when Garrett came up with his plate. I was giving him a hard time about having nothing on his plate. He asked me if I had eaten more and everyone let him know that I had twice as much food on my plate than him.

We started talking about engineering. That is what he is majoring in. As you know my family has a few engineers in it. Throughout the day I picked up on the fact that Garrett was pretty funny. We don't get a ton of time to socialize during club because we are there to play racquetball, but after I left on Saturday I decided that I would ask Garrett to the dance.

On Monday, at club I wanted to play Garrett. Due to some drama, I wasn't able to. I waited after for everyone to leave so I could ask him to the dance. He was talking to my coach for a while. Then we walked out to our cars together, which were parked conveniently close to each other. I kept telling myself to just ask. It is a simple question. "Hey Garret, what are you doing on Friday. Would you like to go to this activity with me?" That is all I had to say. For some reason I couldn't do it. We got in our cars and went our separate ways.

I still wanted to ask him, but now it was going to be more difficult. I didn't have his phone number and I wasn't going to see him again until the day before the activity. Lucky for me I had figured out his last name from my bishop's wife. I knew the general area where he lived. He knew my bishop's nephew so I figured they would know his name. Next I asked my soon to be sister-in-law if she would look up his number on the church website. I knew he was in her stake. After she gave it too me, I felt like I would be a creeper if I just came up with his phone number some how and called him. So Shaya gave me a new idea. Everyone has a school email. So I emailed him and hoped that he would check it. I left him my phone number and waited for a reply. This was all on Monday. He called me on Wednesday and I was so relieved. Then he said that he had a test and didn't know if I still want to go with him. He wouldn't be done until 8 and the activity started at 7. I was cool with him being late.

So all in all it was a great time. I ended up going early to make sure that we got food. I stood in line with a whole bunch of my friends from my ward who all went together. They let me sit at their table while I was waiting for Garrett. That alone made the night worth it. I was laughing so hard at one point that I was starting to tear up. Garrett came and ate. Then the dance started. I haven't had that much fun at an institute dance in a long time. Garrett was doing crazy stuff, so I felt just fine being crazy myself. We got sick of the dance after about 45 minutes. So we went to my house to play games. I taught him how to play Nertz. Then we were talking to my roommate and she needed to go to bed. Garrett said he should go to, but we kept talking. Then we got up and walked to the door and kept talking. I finally told him that I could talk to him forever and he should probably go home :)

Sorry that was a novel. What I'm trying to say is that my first date after all the crazy engagement stuff was super fun. I always feel like people want me to be sad and heart broken after I get out of a relationship. They want me to be sad and depressed forever and mourn over the loss of whatever. But I don't really get that. I feel like usually when you are the one breaking things off you have been mourning before the relationship is even over. You have been grieving over the lose of something you thought was great. So today I choose to be happy and enjoy life. Plus who doesn't like get dressed in a formal and having their hair all curled and feeling beautiful.

Faith requires action

So last night was a little crazy and I may have over reacted a little. It is hard not to when I have so much riding on my last clinical. Just now I remembered what my last new belief was....

I am widely successful, overcoming obstacles with ease!

So the word ease doesn't really describe what I went through. I guess it does if I would take a step back before I see all the horrible things that would happen if I didn't fix my situation. Really it just made me determined to find a solution now. I put things off for so long that it was bound to come back and bite me. But guess what..... I am fabulous and with the help of many people who love me I came up with a solution. My day didn't pan out exactly how I envisioned it, but it was perfect for me.

Don't dwell on the past because we can't change it. Don't stress about the future because if you live in the now it will turn out just how it was meant to be.

I was able to play in a racquetball tournament this weekend. It was fun to see how much better I am than last year. It was also good to see how much better I can get. I am the one that determines how well I do. If I stay out of my head and let my body play the game I do so much better. Relax and have fun!

Well I should go to bed. Tomorrow is the first day of my last clinical. Wahooo! With the time change I have a feeling my alarm is going to go off well before I would like it too!

Major fail!

Just when I thought I was getting the hang of my life again another major set back has sprung itself on me. Too bad I can't get a back ground check done before 8 a.m. Monday morning. I'm hoping that this initial shock is just an over reaction and that I can figure things out. I'm praying that I can some how get around this set back and get my clinical done this semester. I remember when my life used to run just how it was supposed to...oh wait that was never! Deep breaths....lot of deep breaths.
