Patience is a virtue

So sometimes I think that I have things figured out. I think that I understand why the lord is giving me certain instructions and then in hind sight I realize I was so off.

The past month or so I have been trying to convince this guy in my ward to date me. You may have read my last post about this. The lord has been telling me to be patient. Those of you who know me, know that I run my life at a pretty quick pace. It is difficult for me to slow down and smell the roses or in this case (or what I thought was the case) let the guy decide that I was worth his time.

Little did I know that it had nothing to do with this guy. Don't get me wrong, he is amazing...just not for me. Over the past week I've had many things happen. This semester I have had the opportunity to become friends with a guy who knows a girl in my ward. We officially met at an FHE at the beginning of the semester and became quick friends. He is hilarious, but I wasn't looking for anything more from our relationship. I had become obsessed with Tristan and could see nothing else.

On Friday, I had an institute activity that I decided to go to at the last minute. I saw my friend there but he was sitting with a whole bunch of people so I just sat at a different table. I was just finishing up my lunch when he walked over. We hadn't talked in a little while so it was good to catch up. We had been talking about hanging out for a while now and it just hadn't happened. So we set up a date to occur the following day after priesthood session. We then ended up talking for a couple hours. I could have talked to him longer, but I had places I needed to be and he had to get going as well. So we said good bye and planned for the next night to have an epic adventure.

The next day we went off roading and found a good spot to have a little campfire and make some smores. We were on a double date with his brother and another girl. It was pretty chilly that night but I had put on as many layers as I could and stayed close to the fire. We ended up talking and joking around for a couple hours. I decided I should go home because I had to wake up at seven the next morning. So he drove me to my house and we ended up talking in his car for another couple hours.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love talking. I really enjoy a good conversation. So far we weren't having too much trouble with that department. As the night had progressed, I had talked way too much about Tristan. That is pretty rude, right? Talking about another guy while you are on a date. As Gavin and I had been talking I started pay close attention to the little things he was saying. After a while I wasn't sure if I was going after the right guy.

On Sunday it was clear to me that nothing was going to happen between Tristan and I. We could be friends, but it was a waste of my time trying to get him to date me. I text Gavin and thanked him for helping me decide to value myself and my time. It was Sunday night as I was talking to my roommate that I decided that I really liked Gavin. I didn't want to be the fickle girl that was jumping from crush to crush, but I really felt  like this could be something amazing.

On Tuesday, Gavin brought me Tuesday Tacos. We had been talking to each other non stop since Saturday. My favorite thing is that he is so open with me. We can talk about anything and we don't have to worry about being judged. We established that we both thought the other was amazing and that this could go somewhere. There is a little house keeping that needs to happen before we can officially date, but I'm willing to wait that out.

I don't think that I have ever connected with someone like this before. We will start talking about things that are so small, but we are on the same wave length. He doesn't like ice in his drinks...only in snow cones. He doesn't like pop when it is carbonated but will drink it flat. He loves the Princess Bride just as much as I do. He loves music and harmonizing with people. He likes the outdoors. He loves his family. He has an amazing testimony and makes me want to study harder. He knows how to set boundaries for himself and he keeps them. He respects me. He came to my volleyball game last night and made a t-shirt to cheer me on. The front had a large B on it. The back said renda. Then on either sleeve he wrote U and Rock. It pretty much made my day. He makes me laugh all the time and smile. We can have comical conversations and serious ones. He thinks that education is important and works hard. He has so many hidden talents that I am just loving discovering. I know that I can be myself around him and he like me for being me. Let's just say I am on cloud 9 right now. It is too soon to tell, but I really hope this lasts for a very long time.

So really I didn't need to be patient with Tristan. I needed to be patient with myself and allow the opportunity for Gavin to enter my world. At least that is how I am going to interpret this awesome experience. :)

Dating aha moments....

So I was just talking with one of my good friends about this guy I like and I came up with the most fantastic idea ever. So I'm not really sure how to read this guy. I invite him to do things all the time. The majority of the time he says yes and sounds really excited about it. I'm talking all sorts of things. We have gone to a movie, volleyball game, football game, he is now on my intramural volleyball team and has come to play volleyball with my friends and I on Tuesday nights. I even convinced him to come to racquetball club with me once. He taped my elbow for me once, which he fit into his schedule for me. You would think those are all positive signs right? But he doesn't go out of his way to sit by me at church. He sits behind me a lot or on the same row, but never next to me. Is there a guy out there who could explain this tactic to me? Anyway...as I was talking to my friend she asked me if he knew how luck he was to have my attention. I don't think he realizes how awesome I am. She asked if she should send him an anonymous tip. Then I came up with the brilliant idea of reference letters. I had some rock awesome references to get into graduate school. So why couldn't that work with dating? We even have a mutual favorite teacher in common from undergrad. I know he would write me a great letter. :) I'm really starting to think this is a great idea!!!
